Reflections: On The Crucifixion and The Burial
Both events happened on Friday. I wondered if Jesus got any sleep during this high point in His life. The Son of Man and Son of God being displayed as non human and killed because of what He said. I wondered how many people believed Jesus was the Son of God, after the signs and wonders on Good Friday.
The Crucifixion: 9 AM to 3 PM
After Jesus' two trials, He was continued to be beaten, mocked, laughed at and crowned King of the Jews. He was set to carry His cross to Calvary's Hill. Jesus could not carry His Cross as far as He could. Simon of Cyrene was force to carry Jesus' cross.
Jesus was on the cross for six hours. 9 to 3 PM. Jesus spoke while on the way to the cross and while on the Cross ministering to those in need until He breathe His last breath.
Question # 2 From the Book:King's HIGHWAY: On the Road To Calvary
When Jesus cried "It is Finished" from the cross what did He mean?
To be honest with you, the very first reaction to this question would be that Jesus said that the end of His life was coming.
But through the years of being a disciple of Jesus, I have come to see other things to what He meant by It is Finished! All that Jesus came to do was completed as the Father wanted Him to do on the cross.
Jesus entered into His Kingdom on the Cross. His coronation was done. Jesus defeated the Satan, Sickness and Sin on the cross. Redemption is our who are of the Lord.
The Burial: Before Sunset In A Empty Tomb
According to scriptures it took place during the afternoon before sunset, the Sabbath. Joseph of Arimathea claimed the body and made arrangement for the burial. Nicodemus helped take the body off the cross and wrapped it in a long linen cloth.
Joseph and Nicodemus laid Jesus' body in the tomb. The women looked on, while guards was standing by the tomb.
There was people who cared for Jesus at the cross. And those who were in the middle, what in the expect? Who became believers?
On My Journey of Transformation:Some Reflections On Good Friday
Friday was the start of a good weekend that changed History.
As I think back over my scripture meditations and have been watching the Movie The Passion of The Christ, I have a new revelation about the Holy Week. All that Jesus went through to save humanity for sin.
Indeed there is no movie ever made or will ever be made of the Crucifixion of Christ that can capture what horror that was placed upon Jesus. The actual event can not be reproduce. It happened only once.
The passion that Jesus had... How He endured that harsh insults, beatings and punishment for some things that He said was the truth. He was on trial for saying that He was the Son of God. Still Pilate give the crowed Jesus to be crucified. The procedures were carried out.
Through all what Jesus went through He ministered and had compassion to people on His way to the cross and on the cross. By 9 AM Jesus was on the cross. He prayed. He spoke to those around Him.
Jesus ask the Father to forgive the people for not know what they were doing. He even thought about who would take care of His mother. He entrusted her in the hands of His disciple, John.
By Noon darkness filled the sky. I wondered what the people thought. Standing in the dark like night. Watching to see what would happen next?
There were people gambling over Jesus' clothing. There were some mocking Jesus and laughing at Him. I wondered if any one had a new mind set when the darkness came.
Through it all, Jesus was like a hopeless human being on a cross. He was treated like a criminal. Friends stayed near Him until the end.
As Jesus' died body hung on the cross, someone laid claim to His body. There was someone there to step in when things appear loss. God makes all things new again in.
I wondered, how many people who doubted, care to see the light that Jesus as the Son of God on that day? What actually were the Pharisees and religious leaders looking for from Jesus on the Cross? Was it for Jesus to come down?
About God the Father, through all that He allowed His Son to go through, Did God the Father watch on? Was His heart crushed and wounded by what He saw?
Or did He turn His back and not watch on? Was God the Father, relieved when Jesus said "It is Finished?" Did Father God and Jesus Reunite on Good Friday?
I wrote this down in the sanctuary
at Word of Life Church on Good Friday 7:01 PM
How it must have been then, the night that Jesus died---I cannot imagine the thought of such. I recall once, the though came to me while I was walking in the old house.
I was in between rooms. The thought entered my thoughts. My mind was at some thing that I cannot explain. I felt as though I was there at the crucifixion-- Hearing the news of His death. I was shock, I could not comprehend what come to my thinking.
I am thankful for Good Friday. I am thankful for all that Jesus did for humanity.
